5 Reasons to Enjoy the Holidays in The Woodlands

Dreams of dancing sugar plums, nights brightened by colorful lights, aromas of fresh-baked cookies and hot cocoa, and even an appearance from Jolly Old Saint Nick himself. Welcome to the holiday season. There’s a full stocking’s worth of things you can do during the most wonderful time of the year in The Woodlands, where Christmas joy is just as abundant as the winter sunshine. Unwrap a few of the reasons why you should visit The Woodlands this holiday season below.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF WAYS TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS

Don your finest red Santa hat and get festive in The Woodlands, where yuletide cheer is everywhere you look. It doesn’t feel like the holidays until Christmas lights make an appearance, which is exactly why you need to find yourself at Market Street for the spectacular Market Street in Lights. With a flip of a switch, thousands of lights on a 70-foot-tall Christmas tree illuminate this popular shopping and dining area, greeting you with a three-minute light show synchronized to your favorite holiday songs. Grab a hot cocoa or coffee from one of our favorite coffee shops and take in the holiday magic under the twinkling lights.

As awe-inspiring as the tree is, it’s just the start. Tie on a pair of ice skates and carve up the ice at The Woodlands Ice Rink mid-November through mid-January. Fun for all, it’s the kind of thing you’ll probably want to do more than once while you’re here. Fortunately, The Ice Rink is open seven days a week.

Santa on The Waterway at Lighting of the Doves

Finally, don’t miss out on one of The Woodlands’ essential holiday traditions, the annual Lighting of the Doves Festival. Watch the lighting of giant doves meant to symbolize peace during the holiday season. Kids of all ages will enjoy Santa’s grand arrival on a sleigh floating down The Woodlands Waterway, as well as a breathtaking fireworks show that ties a bow on a day of free holiday fun.

IT’S THE PERFECT TIME TO GET OUTDOORS

The holiday season in The Woodlands is ideal for enjoying some time outside, in part because of the average daytime highs of 73 degrees in November and 65 in December. Celebrate all this great weather with an adventure among the treetops at Texas TreeVentures. Conquer obstacles high above terra firma as you breathe in fresh air and admire views of the 1,800-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve. As one of The Woodlands’ busiest attractions, you may want to make a reservation to ensure you can take on the course yourself.

There are many other ways to enjoy the outdoors in The Woodlands. Raise your glass to a sunset over Lake Woodlands from one of the outdoor patios at Del Frisco’s Grille, Fogo de Chão, or any of the other restaurants in Hughes Landing's Restaurant Row. You can also dine al fresco along The Woodlands Waterway, where you can take a post-dinner stroll to see all the holiday lights and public art. When the sun is out, rent a swan boat and pedal along The Waterway, or take a ride on a kayak or paddleboard for a cool afternoon on Lake Woodlands.

Majestic pine trees and tranquil ponds provide a stunning backdrop for another of The Woodlands’ top things to do outdoors: golf. The Woodlands Resort is home to 36 holes of golf split between the Panther Trail and The Oaks courses. Large bunkers and gently sloping fairways are lined with towering pines on both courses, while The Oaks ends with a spectacular par-four along Lake Harrison.

Whether you’re teeing off on a first-rate golf course, overcoming obstacles in the treetops, or paddling a sprawling lake, the holiday season is a fantastic time to enjoy all the outdoor adventure The Woodlands has to offer.
