This April, two major sporting events are coming to The Woodlands: The Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas (designated as the 2023 IRONMAN Americas Championship) and the chevron championship. These two events will bring hundreds of competitors and fans to The Woodlands, generating an increase in visitor spending and hotel bookings, and creating a huge economic impact for the community.
Over half of The Woodlands Township's budget consists of hotel tax and sales tax revenue, and big events like the chevron championship and Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas contribute to a large increase in sales taxes and hotel taxes. This increase in tax revenue strengthens The Woodlands Township's ability to keep property taxes down (and give residents a higher quality of life with well-maintained parks, pathways, and public activities in The Woodlands).
On April 22, 2023, triathletes from across North and South America will compete in the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas, designated as this year's IRONMAN Americas competition. Recently named #1 in the Athlete Choice Awards for Best Overall Satisfaction, Best Overall Finish Line, and Best Overall Post-Race Experience, Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas draws over 8,000 visitors (both participants and fans) to The Woodlands each spring.
The Woodlands is welcoming a new iconic event this April: the chevron championship, the first competition of the season on the LPGA Tour. This is one of the tour's five major championships, and it's going to bring over 100 of the world's top professional female golfers (and their fans) to the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at The Club at Carlton Woods. Although this is the event's first time in The Woodlands, projections from past championships (previously held in California), guarantee that it will generate a large economic impact for The Woodlands.
Together, Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas and the chevron championship are going to create an incredible economic boost for The Woodlands.
